Unix/ Linux Administrator

Reston, VA

Salary - $115,000 - $120,000

We are currently seeking a Linux Systems and Open Source Application (i.e. LAMP, GIT, etc) Administrator to support our Cloud Operations team responsible for the management of day-to-day operations and maintenance of our customers cloud-based infrastructures to ensure smooth 24x7 operation. A candidate will contribute to system design, capacity planning, implementation and sustainment activities across development, staging and production environments and work closely with Engineering and Program Managers to ensure proper and timely deployment of customer’s solutions. Additional responsibilities include:

Use innovative methods and technologies to identify and solve problems related to performance, scalability, reliability, and availability.

Automating operational processes using programming or scripting languages, such as Ruby, Java, PHP, or Python.

Develop, implement, and continually improve system and network monitoring and alerting capabilities and procedures. Report on uptime metrics to management.

Write change log, change control forms and knowledge base documents to improve operations, SOP and contribute to IT organization.

Degree/Education Requirements

4-6 years of system administrator or technical operations experience

Required Skills

This administrator supporting the Cloud Operations team will be responsible for the many of the following:

Strong knowledge of Linux system administration practices and troubleshooting.

Strong scripting background for task automation and experience with cloud management system APIs.

Experience with the one or more of the following: Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, LDAP/AD, DNS/BIND, SSO, SMTP, NFS

Experience with AWS (VPC, EC2, RDS, ELB, S3).

Experience supporting structured (such as RDBMS) and un-structured/big data technologies (such as Hadoop and shared nothing databases).

Experience supporting data analytic solutions such as SAS and MATLAB.

Experience supporting Apple Server and Domain functions.

Strong knowledge of interfacing these solutions with Microsoft Enterprise-class software (e.g., Microsoft Active Directory Single Sign On, DNS, Email, Kerberos).

Familiarity with virtualization Environments to include large scale deployment and design for server, application and desktop virtualization and emerging cloud technologies (e.g. VMWare, Xen, VDI).

Ensuring that service offerings and solution leverage industry best practices.

Demonstrated ability to generate and maintain technical documentation is required.

Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

Familiarity the principles of ITIL and Service Management.

Desired Skills and Experience

Ideal candidate should be able to multitask and give equal attention to a variety of functions while under pressure. Be self-directed and independent.

Experience with operating, managing and deploying solutions that leverage IaaS, PaaS or SaaS is a plus.

Should possess one or more of the following or related certifications RHCE, ITIL v3.

Experience with one or more Cloud Monitoring and Management tools such as: ScienceLogic EM7, BMC CLM, Zenos, Chef, Puppet

Familiarity with Federated Identity Realms and API integrations (OAUTH)

Familiarity with Mobile Application Development Platforms such as Apple iOS, Android, WinMobile and BlackBerry OS.

Experience working in within the Federal Security Requirements.

A previous DoD Security Clearance is a plus, but not required.

Location

Reston, VA but will need to travel to Washington, DC for client support
